SCONES WITH DEVON CREAM RECIPE

Scone Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all purpose Flour, sifted
  • 1 tablespoons Baking Powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Grated orange peel
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/4 cup Butter or margarine -- melted
  • 1 Egg -- lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup Buttermilk
  • Devon Cream -- below
  • Strawberry preserves -- (optional)

Scone Preparation:

Preheat oven to 400. Lightly grease a baking sheet. Stir together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, orange peel, and soda in mixing bowl. Add butter, egg, and buttermilk; stir with a fork only until dough leaves sides of bowl. Turn dough out onto lightly floured board or pastry cloth; knead gently just until smooth. Divide dough in half. Pat or roll each half into a 1/2-inch thick round. Cut each round into 8 wedges using a floured sharp knife or pizza cutter. Place wedges about 1 inch apart on prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until golden brown. Serve hot with Devon Cream and strawberry preserves, if desired.

DEVON CREAM --1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened 1/3 cup dairy sour cream 1 tablespoon sugar. Beat all ingredients together until smooth and light.
